INTERMAT launches the African Summit 2027: a new event dedicated to construction opportunities in Africa

Could HVO become the transitional fuel for construction sites ahead of widespread electrification?

Whilst decarbonising construction sites is emerging as a priority for the entire construction sector, one reality is gradually becoming clear: electrification, whilst essential, will not be able to meet all needs on its own. For heavy machinery, remote construction sites or operations requiring a high degree of energy autonomy, internal combustion engines remain difficult to replace at present. In this context, HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) appears to be the most immediately viable solution for reducing carbon emissions without disrupting existing practices.

As the 2027 edition approaches, INTERMAT is reaching a new milestone with the publication of a brand-new special issue dedicated to the major transformations shaping the construction sector. This special edition offers an in-depth analysis of the economic, environmental, and societal dynamics that are redefining the industry around the theme of sustainability.
Designed as a tool for understanding and anticipation, this special issue draws on discussions from the Industry Day held on January 29, 2026, and gives a voice to all key stakeholders—manufacturers, companies, federations, and experts—to decode the challenges at play and identify actionable levers.

For its next edition in 2027, INTERMAT places sustainability at the heart of its value proposition — not as a constraint, but as a driver of innovation, operational efficiency and value creation across the entire construction industry.

Since its enactment on 22 August 2021, the “Climate & Resilience” Law has resonated across all segments of the construction market. Through this legislation, France is firmly committed to an ecological transition driven by low-carbon development. Electrification, hydrogen, circular economy—tangible solutions are emerging to build more sustainably and meet new standards.

With the rise of major sustainable construction projects, the building and public works sector is turning towards eco-friendly solutions—among them, hydrogen. Thanks to its flexibility and performance, hydrogen is emerging as a promising alternative to electric power in reducing CO₂ emissions. Already adopted by leading industry players, hydrogen has the potential to transform tomorrow's construction sites.

The 2024 edition of INTERMAT was a resounding success, bringing together thousands of professionals from the building and public works sectors. Exhibitors and visitors alike praised the quality of exchanges, the innovations presented, and the business opportunities generated. Building on this momentum, INTERMAT 2027 promises to be an unmissable event for all players in public works and construction.

The INTERMAT trade show, which took place from 24 to 27 April 2024 at the Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte, brought together the major players in the construction sector.

The 2024 edition of the tradeshow close dits doors last Saturday after 4 days counting 127,500 entries, 21% of which from outside France and from 130 countries. The industry’s drive in favour of environmental and technological progress gathered a high-quality and delighted visitor audience.

On 29 January 2026, INTERMAT and the sector's leading professional organisations will gather in Paris for a special day dedicated to the major challenges facing the construction industry at national and European level.

As companies steer their strategies toward more virtuous practices aligned with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) commitments, challenges remain, particularly in the implementation of electrification solutions.
